XDefiant to shut down in 2025

Ubisoft announced that XDefiant will be shut down in June 2025. XDefiant is a free-to-play FPS  that boasted a small install size (compared to behemoths such as Call Of Duty), frantic gameplay, and a roster of Ubisoft universe characters.  After a successful beta and a pretty good first season, XDefiant started losing players fast. It's a shame, too because it's a pretty good shooter. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed playing it. Free-to-play games typically have the same issue though. If your gameplay isn't tweaked to perfection at launch, players will leave. They have nothing to lose since the game itself was free. Unfortunately, that was the case here. Players found that the gameplay loop largely remained the same with no game-changing updates or big reasons to return after a season.  If you downloaded XDefiant you will still be able to launch the game until servers close in June. If you purchased a Founder's Pack OR made any purchases in the last 30 days (up until Decem...

Shenmue 3 gets NEW Publishing Rights

I'm a lifelong fan of Shenmue. Any new news and I feel like a kid back in 1999 trying to find some sailors. So hearing today that Shenmue 3 gets new Publishing Rights coinciding around Shenmue's 25th anniversary is pretty dang exciting. More Shenmue content is definitely heading our way via ININ Games who recently published Air Twister to pretty great reviews. While we don't know exactly WHAT is coming, we do know there are pieces in motion. Read the full press release below and get pumped! ININ  and  YSNET  are thrilled to announce that the publishing rights for the legendary iconic game  Shenmue III  are officially transferred to ININ Games. Following the previous collaboration on  Air Twister , this will deepen the relationship with the legendary creator  Yu Suzuki  and his team. Lunar Remastered Collection releasing in 2025

In a world of remastered classics, one that I have weirdly wanted for some time now has been the Lunar series. Well, I must have gotten ahold of some magic wishes or something because during the Sony State Of Play today, Lunar Remastered Collection was announced. One of my first ever collector's editions of a game was for Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. I used to listen to the soundtrack and watch the voiceover outtakes ALL the time so I am pretty excited for this one! Lunar Remastered Collection will have some new features for modern day like widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, HD animated cutscenes, and all-new English voice acting. You will also have the ability to speed up the battles which seems to be a standard for remastering some of the older turn-based RPGs.  Enjoy the trailer below! Lunar Remastered Collection launches on PS4 and PS5 in the Spring of 2025!

Borderlands 4 Announcement!

Borderlands 4 was confirmed and announced at Gamescom today for a 2025 release. I know it may be hard to get the taste of the movie that just opened out of your mouth but that should not reflect the games. Borderlands has been a consistent and fantastic experience since the original game's release back in 2009.  While no gameplay was shown off at Gamescom, the teaser trailer dropped and you can take a look at it here: Needless to say, I cannot wait for 2025 when we can get our hands on Borderlands 4!

NBA Jam is Back?!

NBA Jam is back!?!  While it's not exactly NBA Jam, the vibes are revived with the new hoops game, NBA SUPERSTARS. The aesthetics, flash, and explosiveness which are staples of previous Jam entries are all here. It’s even got the iconic Tim Kitzrow on the mic. BOOM SHAKALAKA! If you’re a fan of arcade sports games this game was made for you. The only problem is that the only way to play it is to go to an arcade as there is currently no news for a console or PC port. Dave & Busters here I come.  Check out the trailer here ⬇ Here are some of my takeaways and thoughts: They’ve decided to go with 3 v 3 instead of 2 v 2, and I’m all for it. This just means more lineup experimentation and more chaos! There are a total of 120 playable NBA players. This means each team will have 4 total players to choose from (I didn't even use a calculator for that). Not the best, no the worst. It makes me wonder who will make the cut! I did some investigating on the roster selection. Inte...

E3 Is Officially Dead

The former video game conference juggernaut, E3, has announced today that is no more. What used to be a spectacle for media goers, video game enthusiasts and more has failed with their expectations over the past few years especially after Covid-19 hit.  Other conferences and award shows such as The Video Game Awards, and each company's own showcases have sort of diminished the appeal of E3. At least from a business perspective.  Who knows if something else will come from the ashes of a legend, and we will be here to find out. But with so many other ways to get your video game news, it may be unlikely we get another revival attempt from E3. pic.twitter.com/y6dtVkBvNI — E3 (@E3) December 12, 2023

The Day Before Studio Has Shut Down

In case you haven't heard of The Day Before, Fntastic studios announced a revolutionary open world post apocalyptic world video game a few years back. The teasers all boasted stunning visuals and exciting gameplay. The trailers alone excited fans of the genre and it became one of Steam's most sought-after games. Well, after years of setbacks (including a name change as well as other controversies that even led the developer to call out "haters"), the game FINALLY released on Steam and boy was it...bad. Unplayable actually. And I don't mean like Anthem where there was actually a game hidden behind the brokenness. I mean like, players could not even start the first mission as they were spawning into the game through the walls and floor of the map. That's even if they could log in to begin with. The game was littered with reused and default Unreal Engine assets of a basic survival MMO game. It also ended up being a generic extraction shooter. With all the false a...

Get out your Buster swords! Cloud and the gang are BACK on February 29th, 2024. During the Playstation State Of Play, we got another look at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Oh it looks awesome. Some disheartening news about the game is that you will NOT be able to transfer your save from Final Fantasy VII Remake so if you were expecting character progression to come along with you, sorry about your luck. Regardless, check out the Avalanche crew in their search for Sephiroth in the trailer below!  " The Unknown Journey Continues... Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Finally Has A Release Date Announced During Nintendo Direct

Yes yes and more YES. During the Nintendo Direct today we finally got a release date for spiritual successor to Suikoden, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. On April 23, 2024 we will get to play the highly anticipated turn-based RPG from Rabbit & Bear Studios. EC:HH features old school pixel sprite work similar to Suikoden. It features the creators and writers from the original game so it is very familiar. Featuring over 100 characters to recruit and join your quest, you will will embark on a vast adventure through the war-torn continent of Allraan. This is one that has been one that I have waited YEARS for since their Kickstarter broke records back in 2020.  There has been a resurgence in nostaligic type video games recently, especially after the popularity of Octopath Traveler and I couldn't be more excited for this revolution. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will be out for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

MEOW! Stray Gets Animated Movie

If you don't speak cat, the title of this article says "Annapurna announced that the video game that took the world by the paws in 2022, Stray, will be developed into an animated movie." I know that seems a lot for just one word, but that is how cats work. I wouldn't question it. The project is going to be headed by former Disney Animation buffs Robert Baird and Andrew Millstein so that gets me pretty excited for what this has in store. Stray is a fantastic and unique game that I highly recommend playing if you have not done so yet. This does beg the question though, what video games would you like to see get the animated treatment? Let us know in the comments below! Want more DRYF news? Check out more information about Suikoden getting delayed here: Suikoden Delayed

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Wars Rune And Dunan Unification Wars DELAYED

Well, here it is folks. What Suikoden fans were worried about following the news of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes being delayed until next year. The Suikoden 1 and 2 remasters are being delayed as well. While there is no official release date as of yet, you can check out the full statement from Konami: We would like to thank Suikoden fans everywhere for your ongoing passion and support for the Suikoden series. Regarding the planned release of Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, we have reached the conclusion that despite the very best efforts of our dedicated development staff to release the Remasters in 2023, additional time is needed to ensure the quality performance and gameplay experience our users deserve. The entire Suikoden team is renewing our efforts to bring Suikoden I & II HD Remaster to release as soon as is possible. We will share further release information as soon as it becomes available, on our official social media accounts an...

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Is Indeed Headed To PS4, Xbox One

No worries and no more back in forth, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor fans! The game is headed to Playstation 4, and Xbox One consoles!  What does this mean in terms of quality for the port? We don't know! I'm sure there would have to be a lower resolution and frame rate type of move happening. But overall, MORE people can play this fantastic entry in the series. I find that to be a win!  No release dates or time frame has been set yet (at the time of this writing) but I imagine it won't be too far off. We look forward to seeing more from Respawn in the future and are excited they keep making awesome games.

Black Panther Video Game From EA Announced

In what seemingly came out of nowhere (at least to me because I live under a rock, apparently), EA announced that a new studio, Cliffhanger Games, will be working with Marvel to develop a Black Panther game. With the success of Spider-Man and the hype of the upcoming Wolverine game, this is pretty darn exciting. Do We Need A Dead By Daylight Dating Sim?

Short answer: No. Do we want it? Apparently, yes! Twitter seems to be excited about "finally adding sex to Dead By Daylight" I have no problem with developers taking their current characters/lore and having their communities explore them in different ways. I think it is great! Do I initially raise my eyebrow like The Rock giving an interview on old WWE programming? Absolutely.  So what the hell am I writing about? Well, Dead By Daylight is becoming a Dating Sim. Yeah. I said that sentence and I meant it. Behaviour is launching "Hooked On You: A Dead By Daylight Dating Sim" this summer on Steam. Taking place on "Murderer's Island" you can romance of become friends with some of the original Killer characters from the DBD universe. The description as stated on it's website,  HERE , is as follows: "Your companions: four dead-sexy Killers who, underneath their murderous exteriors, just want a little romance. Flirt your way into their hearts, uncove...
