5 SPOOKY Games To Start Off Your Fall Harvest

Looking for a good way to cozy up and let a bunch of demons loose in your household? Have no fear (or do because some of these are creepy) as Don't Revive Your Friends has some recommendations to up the scare factor in your life. 1. Outlast Outlast relies on the limitations of batteries to really get your heart racing. There is no real combat in this game but plenty of jumpscares and creatures to have you running through the halls of this prison all the while trying to report and solve a mystery of "What the hell is going on here?" It's definitely creepy and has made me pause a few times to keep my panic attack at bay. 2. Resident Evil 7 I know there are newer Resident Evil games out there. Remakes and Village, but there is something absolutely so terrifying about 7. The whole family concept of killers reminds me of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies. The whole vibe here will certainly give you the creeps and have your heart racing throughout the story. 3. Little Nigh

Concord Proves The Industry Needs Change

If you haven't already heard, developer Firewalk has announced that Concord will be taken offline on September 6th, 2024. Refunds will be issued for anyone who purchased the game. This comes just two weeks after the game's release. While early reviews and previews actually had some decent things to say about Concord , a lot of gamers felt it was just "too much like Overwatch with nothing new." This goes to show how loyal gamers already are to established series and whether or not that is to a fault is starting to rear its head now. Concord was reported to take over 8 years in development and cost millions to make. A lot of time, effort, and money went into building this world and experience. For a game with some quality opinions to be shut down a few weeks after release and not JUST because of the gameplay, is quite interesting. I absolutely feel for the people who took the time to work hard and create a video game as we all know it's not easy by any means. But I

Are We Still Excited For New Switch Games?

The Nintendo Switch has been a phenomenal console in its run. An absolute success for Nintendo financially and for gamers, we got a (mostly) full console experience on the go! Mario Odyssey on the train? Check. Skyrim on the toilet? Double check. Being able to play Breath of the Wild and the vast amount of Pokémon games anywhere and at any time has been an awesome time over the last 7 or so years and more people than ever have been able to play cool video games. In its later years, though, we've started to see a decline in what the console itself can actually do. Tears of the Kingdom pushed the Switch to its limits and while it is extremely impressive, it is hard not to think of what the game could look and feel like on better hardware. Super Mario RPG, Thousand Year Door, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and plenty others are examples of how awesome it can actually be. A lot of ports that come to the Switch often fail in comparison to their heavy duty counterparts (looking at you Mort

F-Zero 99 On Nintendo Switch Is A Crazy Good Time

F-Zero was one of my favorite games ever on the SNES. The iconic soundtrack, the cool graphics, the weird...alien beams that heal your car as you smash your way around the track. Racing against a few people at a time can surely be thrilling but of course, you're working with the old Nintendo hardware. Enter: F-Zero 99. In the vain of Tetris 99, or Mario 35, this game pits you against 98 other drivers willing to bump you into oblivion. It is insane. It is chaotic. It is a ton of fun. Not only do you race against all these people in a 4 lap race elimination style (you're only "safe" past certain positions after laps), you get to customize your car, player card, and badge. The races are usually just a few short minutes and definitely blast you in the face full of nostalgia. Even if you have never played an F-Zero title before, it's worth giving this a try if you are a Nintendo Switch Online Member. In my 10+ races, I have clenched more areas than I am willing to admi

I Cannot Help But Like Starfield

This may not be at the level of a particular Adoring Fan but I have to say, I am enjoying Starfield. I have read many reports that the game doesn't "get good" until 10+ hours into it and I have to disagree. If you're looking for a mix of Outer Worlds and No Mans Sky, this definitely gives you that fix. Starfield isn't revolutionary. It's not even different. In fact, it's more of the exact same formula Bethesda has used before. While I criticize this in most sports games, there is a charm with it in these cases. Starfield is not a glorified roster update like Madden. It is the 2K story mode update which I really appreciate. Bethesda took the time to craft an actual campaign and interesting quests for you to explore. Sure, there are some duds here and there as not EVERY quest cannot be the most spectacular thing in the galaxy, but overall, I find it to be fun and engaging. Now let us be clear on one thing here: The planets are pretty dull for the most part.

Why Aren't Arcade Sports Games More Popular?

NBA Jam. NFL Blitz. NBA/NFL Street. NHL Hitz. MLB Slugfest. These games were all staples in my childhood. They caused friendships to turn into rivalries, egos to inflate, and more trash talk and catchphrases than you can imagine. But why didn't their success translate over to the digital age? When you think about being able to play Blitz against ANYONE in the world, it sounds incredible. I'm not sure if the appeal of playing against someone right by your side was lost once simulation sports took over the online space but I just don't get it. Quick game types seem perfect for the modern styles of play we have now. Most of these matches took 5-10 minutes to complete and always ended up with a "just one more" type of feel to them. Whether it was activating superpowers, making an impossible play, juggling three fumbles on one play, fighting your fellow hockey opponent, or launching a 600-foot fireball homerun, these were always "OH SNAP" moments.  Over the

VR - Hype Or Future Reality?

Virtual Reality (VR) has been a buzzword (bzzzzz) for quite some time now, promising to revolutionize how we experience and interact with technology. With the growing availability of affordable VR (sort of) headsets and advancements in VR technology, many enthusiasts and industry experts have painted a rosy picture of a future where VR dominates various aspects of our lives. However, despite the hype, there are reasons to be skeptical about the future of virtual reality. I'm not just looking at you, Horizon Call of the Mountain. One of the main concerns with VR is its adoption rater (the number of people snagging these things up). While VR has gained some traction in the gaming and entertainment industries as of late with the likes of Beat Saber and VR Chat, it has yet to become mainstream. The cost of entry for high-quality VR experiences, including the price of VR headsets and compatible hardware, remains a barrier for many consumers. The PSVR2 is $549.99 for example. Additionall

REPLAY: Outriders

When Outriders was first announced back in 2019 I was skeptical. That is how I am with most games that are announced nowadays but still. The reasoning here was because it looked awesome. Whenever something in the video game space LOOKS awesome, watch out. **cough cough ANTHEM** Once the game finally came out in 2021, I took my chances. What is $60 to most humans anyway? Chump change?............... Going into the game with trained minimal expectations I was shocked. This game is FUN. Yep. Fun. I have a love in my heart for looter shooters (Borderlands, Destiny, etc) and Outriders delivers that love right back to me. "Go here, shoot these baddies, and then go here and shoot THESE baddies and then shoot this boss" is the formula and it feels great. Now Outriders does mix it up with its awesome skill and ability progression. You can choose between 4 classes that each offer their own gameplay styles and options. They range in style from your typical Tank class to your Assassin an

SJComp and Hangtime's Top 5 Favorite Games

HANGTIME'S PICKS When coming up with this list I asked myself a pretty simple question. Out of all the games I’ve ever played, which games could I pick up today and have the most fun with? There are some amazing single player games that I have played over the years that have memorable stories, great gameplay and immersive world building. However, at the end of the day I play video games to have fun. There are definitely objectively better games I’ve played that are not on this list, but these are games that I still would pick and play today and have a blast. Let’s take a look at my favorite games of all time! NBA Hangtime If you couldn’t tell by name, I love this game. One of the biggest reasons why I love this game is due its timeless gameplay. NBA Hangtime stays true to the NBA Jam formula. It’s fast paced, over the top, 2 v 2 basketball, with high flying dunks, flagrant fouls, and lights out shooting. Not only did this game get me into the sport of Basketball, it was one of the

Is Saints Row Really THAT Bad?

What a loaded question the title of this article is. Why I decided to truly decide if this game is "good" or "bad" is actually beyond me. I've played about 30 hours of Saints Row and my conclusion is this: it's fun! Seriously. The writing may be weird and trying way too hard to resonate with a younger "woke" audience, the gameplay has its bugs (a fair share of them) and some of the missions can be bland or straight-up broken. But honestly, the game is one of the "turn your mind off and blow shit up" types of times. Full disclaimer, I bought this game at a 20 dollar price point. I do NOT think it's worth anything above 40.  With the launch Saints Row had and being nearly unplayable then, it seems to have been patched up quite a bit. Some troubles still linger and it is extremely noticeable when encountering something that's not right. For example, I started a side hustle (side mission) in between the main story. Every time I select

Retrospective: Borderlands

After completing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands on the Playstation 5, I have decided to go back to where my love for the looter shooter began: Borderlands. Booting up the Game Of The Year remastered edition was an instant blast of nostalgia. Even with the updated graphics and faster loading times, I could not help but think of the first time I played this game. I was living in my first apartment. Sort of rundown and sketchy but that didn't matter. All that mattered was my mind being focused on Borderlands. From it's silly little robot barking commands at me while I pew pew away at vulgar mouthed bandits, or the fact that this cel shading was so interesting and fresh from what I have been playing at the time. Borderlands is STILL great. Easily. Sure, it may feel a little flighty compared to later entries like 3 and Wonderlands but it still remains a fantastic shooter. Gunplay is such an experience since the millions of random gun combinations completely change your playstyle ever

Should All Live Service Games Be Free?

This is a question I think about often. If you are going to offer a live service game, should that game be free? Now this includes subscription fees and base entry fees. I understand charging for Battle Passes, DLC (expansions offering premium content), and the like. But if we look at something like Fortnite, which makes a FORTUNE off of Skins/Battle Passes/Crew Memberships, why is every game not following this model? Opening up your game to a slew of people waiting for the next big thing is in your best interest. These people are keener to purchasing skins, emotes, and whatever else you're offering.  There are games that offer the base entry fee and then either services die out OR they go to a free-to-play model months after release. The people who funded the game for the last few months do not get refunds. Now sure, that company is taking a loss as well but I really feel the way to move forward is to offer these games free initially. If you know you are going to have a gacha feat

High On Life: Review?

Quick and painless here: I have never watched Rick and Morty. That being said, I do have an odd sense of humor and find the weirdest things funny. Playing through High On Life, I have had the occasional chuckle, but found myself being more annoyed than anything else. Sure, there is a ton of dialogue but it is not the amount that got on my nerves. It was that I really felt it was trying TOO hard to make me laugh. You ever see someone bomb a joke and resort to self-physical harm to try and get a reaction? That is what I feel this game is. That last-ditch effort to squeeze a peep of sound out of my mouth. The gameplay here is fine. Pew pew and knife your way through a bunch of foul-mouth aliens on various planets/cities. I have no problems with any of the weapons or methods of murder and there IS an option to silence the dialogue a bit. There's just nothing really NEW to the game. It is very colorful and very over-the-top which I do appreciate. The art is awesome. I just get rubbed th

Backlog Chronicles: Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk is a game. That's it. It is for sure a video game. Besides that fact it very well may be one of the most unfortunate launches in video game history. How does it hold up nearly TWO years later? Let's find out! Cyberpunk starts you off with some choices. Always pretty nice. I started this game when it came out and thought the character creator was pretty awesome. Especially for how little you actually see your character since there is no 3rd person mode. Weird.  Picking your lifestyle and gameplay style is up next and I took a NOMAD route. An outlier to the streets of Night City. I do things my way and my way only. Unless it is a really hard dialogue choice and I pick whatever is best. All of this at launch was pretty fun and it still is. It crashed on me every 10 minutes or so back at launch and my clothes..kept...disappearing..but so far so good! One thing that plagued this game back in 2020 were random (over 1,000) issues that most players had encountered. UI leaving

Backlog Chronicles: Yakuza Kiwami

Yakuza is a game and series I have always heard about since the Playstation 2 era. Back then I was interested in this type of genre but was wrapped up in the likes of True Crime, Grand Theft Auto and similar titles. Sad to say, Yakuza got overlooked. I even played through and loved the Shenmue series. This would have been right up my alley. Well. Here we are in 2022. I actually own all the Yakuza games (they are always on sale and I have a problem) and have still yet to play a single one. Until now. Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the original title from back in 2005/2006. There is no better time than now to play an old classic because at this point it is probably remastered or ported to newer consoles. My first impressions upon loading the game up were crazy excitement. An energetic soundtrack showcases action packed scenes from points throughout the story and I cannot wait to experience them myself. We then set foot in Kazuma Kiryu's shoes as he runs through the city of  Kamurocho
